Frequently asked questions
The following are responses to some common questions Aerofloat has received from houseboat owners regarding greywater management, current legislation and the Aerofloat systems.

What do the new regulations mean for me and how can Aerofloat help?
From the 1st of January 2010 it became mandatory for all commercial vessels
operating on inland waters to contain or treat their grey water. Treatment
options must comply with strict standards regarding the quality of the water
that is allowed to be discharged. The Aerofloat™ product has been extensively
tested and is recognised by the EPA (see letter of recognition).
Mandatory compliance audits are underway for vessels operating in South Australia. Selected marinas and boating associations can provide more information on these audits.
Will the system fit on my boat / meet my specific requirements?
There are 4 Aerofloat™ systems available for 2-12 berth craft. Configuration is flexible and will be customised to fit within your existing space constraints. A member of our design team will assist you either on site or by phone with these choices.
What is the process for installing an Aerofloat system?
For most applications the Aerofloat™ system will come pre-fabricated and mounted on a frame. Installation of the unit itself should only take 4 hours. In addition basic electrical and plumbing work is required. The connection points required are a power supply; a greywater feed line, a black water disposal line and a treated effluent line. Most boats will require some general plumbing /drainage work to facilitate the capture, storage and delivery of greywater to the Aerofloat™ unit. This drainage work will generally take 3 days on the slip. Aerofloat™ will provide advice in this area or alternatively qualified slipway staff will offer recommendations.
How difficult / expensive will it be to maintain?
The key maintenance task will be the periodic cleaning of the 2 filters. For a 12 berth boat the annual operation and maintenance costs will be approximately $350 excluding labour, which is typically ½ hour per week.
Will it make a lot of noise?
The noise level while operating is very low (45-50 dBA at the unit). Further, the key advantage of the Aerofloat™ system is that the unit will switch off shortly after greywater is no longer being produced.
Are there certain things I can’t put down the sink?
Generally speaking the system should be able to handle all ‘normal’ contaminates from sinks, dishwashers and showers. While it is unlikely to affect the Aerofloat™ unit, disposal of abnormal chemicals (such as certain hair shampoos containing high levels of Nitrogen) into the grey water system is not advised as it may contain wastes that contravene the EPA regulations. Certain green label products are recommended to better improve the performance of the system.
Who do I contact if something breaks down/goes wrong? Is it underwarranty?
The majority of components are designed to last 20-25 years. There is a 12 month warranty on all parts and labour. Repairs will generally be undertaken at an authorised installer (slipway). After hours contact numbers will be provided and spare parts will be readily available at all local slipways to ensure there is no down time of the units.
