Aerofloat passes Australian Standard Testing
THE NEW COMPACT AEROFLOAT PRODUCT IS THE FIRST TO MEET NEW STANDARD FOR GREYWATER TREATMENT ON HOUSEBOATS AND OTHER VESSELS OPERATED ON INLAND WATERS
Aerofloat is pleased to announce that after 18 months of development work in close consultation with the South Australian EPA, the Aerofloat compact greywater treatment system has met the standard (Part A) for GREYWATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS FOR VESSELS OPERATED ON INLAND WATERS (AS4995 – 2009).
Aerofloat has worked with the South Australian Environment Protection Authority (EPA) since the Standard was published in 2009 to design a product that would specifically meet the requirements of this Standard. Aerofloat is the first and only product to have been tested and found to have met the Discharge Requirements of this Standard to date.
The Standard in conjunction with legislation was designed to improve the quality of Australia’s delicate aquatic ecosystems by reducing the amount of untreated effluent discharged directly into the waterways. The Standard mainly applies to houseboats but is relevant to cruisers, yachts, pontoons or even remote residences.
Designed and built in Australia by one of the most experienced greywater treatment experts in the country, Aerofloat products are unique, as they utilise a proprietary floatation technology that allows the units to be smaller, more efficient, quieter and more affordable than previously available products.
Compliance to the Standard by suppliers has been encouraged by the EPA. The 100% compliance to the Standard is an acknowledgement of the excellent performance of the Aerofloat Product under extensive test conditions. In addition to the Certification testing under laboratory conditions for 7 days per week for a continuous 12 week period the product was tested in field conditions for a 8 month period in 2009 and 2010. The Certification testing was carried out by an independent University and has been verified by an independent auditor.
The units have a fast treatment rate which means they can process more greywater output per hour, making it simple and efficient to operate.
The Australian Standard testing and approval includes all of the products in the Aerofloat range:
Aerofloat 200 - 200 litres per hour - Suitable for 2-4 berth vessels
Aerofloat 350 - 350 litres per hour - Suitable for 4-6 berth vessels
Aerofloat 450 - 450 litres per hour - Suitable for 6-8 berth vessels
Aerofloat 750 - 750 litres per hour - Suitable for 6-12 berth vessels
South Australian EPA legislation requiring treatment or containment for certain types of boats applies to private houseboats from January 2011. The installation of an Aerofloat unit would improve the efficiency and operation of vessels vs. containment and pumping, and would improve the freedom that vessel owners have to move within the waterways.
Aerofloat units can be installed into new builds or retrofit onto existing vessels with ease.
EPA Chief Executive Helen Fulcher congratulated Aerofloat on being the first company to produce a product which meets the discharge requirements outlined in the Standard.
“It’s pleasing to see that industry are embracing the Standard and offering vessel operators solutions to manage their greywater sustainably,” said Ms Fulcher.
