Wastewater Treatment for the New Sydney Fish Market
Aerofloat was engaged to design, build and install two wastewater treatment plants for the new Sydney Fish Market. The plants remove contaminants from water used at the new market so that the treated water can be reused or discharged safely to the sewer.
One plant is for industrial wastewater from the fish processing areas. It removes suspended solids, fats, oils, and grease through a combination of screening, coagulation, flocculation, and dissolved air flotation. The treated water can then go to the sewer or to a biological treatment plant on a lower floor with a membrane bioreactor built by Aquacell for further treatment. This helps reuse water in the fish processing facilities, minimising water usage and supporting the new Sydney Fish Market’s sustainability goals.
The second wastewater treatment plant is a commercial dissolved air flotation (DAF) plant for treating water from the food court. It uses Aerofloat’s technology to efficiently remove solids and removes fats, oils and grease. This ensures compliance with commercial trade waste discharge regulations and prevents grease buildup in Sydney Water’s sewer network.
Aerofloat designed both plants using 3D CAD modelling to fit into tight spaces – under stairs and across split levels. Aerofloat oversaw the mechanical, process, and electrical design in partnership with Planet Plumbing and Multiplex to deliver this state-of-the-art infrastructure for the new Sydney Fish Market.
